This is a basic run down of things we do during the year, so you have an idea of what we do, and some of things we can do for you.
January
This is usually the quietest month for gardens. Regular frost or cold weather stops anything
growing. Any final shrubs or plants that die-off during the winter are taken back this time of year,
and any last leaves are picked up. This is usually a good time to start
jet-washing drives, patios and paths.
February
The weather starts improving gradually about now, and the Daffodils start appearing signalling
the start of the new growing season. The weather is usually mild enough to be able to
paint any fences out exterior woodwork, which will really make
a difference to the garden and prolong the life of any wood exposed to the weather.
March
Providing the weather is suitable, this is when the regular maintenance kicks in for most of
our customers. The season usually starts by scarifying lawns.
This treatment removes any moss from lawns and an nice early Spring feed on a lawn will stand it in
good stead for the season ahead. Any Spring planting can be done now.
April
By now the summer maintenance schedule will be in full swing, with the plants and shrubs
starting to bud and grow substantially.
May
This can be one of the best months for gardens, as there is usually a lot of rain in May, so the
plants get enough water and sunlight. The result is green lawns, flowering plants and a busy time to
keep everything under control!
June
Now is a good time to apply some more feed to the lawn, especially if it is damp. July and August
could mean long spells of dry weather, and having a good healthy lawn can help see it last any long
periods of dry weather.
July
Probably one of the best months for gardening. The sun is hopefully beaming down on the gardens
and gardeners are starting to develop a nice tan. It's important to water hanging baskets regularly
early in the morning or in the evening when the sun won't evapourate the water straight away.
August
This could be the month when the grass is growing like mad because of the hot temperatures and a
typical downpour, or the grass is starting to look brown due to long periods of dry spells and
heatwaves. If you have to water your garden, do it in the evening when the sun is going down, so the
water won't evapourate straight away, and it has the whole of the cool night to soak up the much-needed
water.
September
After a long growing season, plants are starting to drop away, and slowly stop flowering and
some plants may start to die off gradually. The trees may start dropping leaves slowly.
October
The leaves will start coming down, and it's important to keep them off the lawn to prevent moss
growing and suffocating the grass underneath.
November
Strong winds and bad weather mean the leaves will be coming down with every slight gust of wind.
As in October, it's important to clear up the leaves off the lawn. It's important to let plants
slowly die off properly, instead of hacking them down as soon as they start turning brown. As the plant
dies off, it stores energy for next season, so it needs as much time as possible to slowly die off.
December
The last of the leaves will be coming down, and the plants will slowly die off for the winter.
